The commercial sector covers a broad spectrum of building types that includes places in which we work, shop, eat, gather, relax and holiday. Increasingly schemes now encompass more than one of these activities, often commonly also including a residential component, within mixed use developments.
Projects predominantly emanate from within the private sector, where Todd Architects established their commission base in the early 1980’s, and where the practice has retained a reputation for maximising the development potential of sites and responding to briefs and context in fresh and innovate manners, whilst ensuring that buildings are delivered within client’s budgetary and programming requirements.
Completed projects in the sector range in scale and complexity from modest restaurant fit outs, to major city centre office developments. Each however is directed by the same guiding principles and a belief that good buildings must address all aspects of the art and science of architecture; functional performance, financial visibility, maintenance liability and life cycle costs. The achievement of some of these essentials, at the expense of others, will not constitute either good architecture or full service to a client and buildings users.
The practice’s work and skills expand beyond individual building design to include “the big architecture” - masterplanning, urban design and development framework strategies, where we have completed commissions throughout Europe.
