All of the projects on the shortlist have been designed by RIAI-registered architects, and were completed in 2018, with the shortlisted projects decided outcome determined by the 10,000 votes cast, the Public Choice Award.

“The wide variety of projects included in this year’s shortlist demonstrates the diversity of great work being carried out by architects at home and abroad.  Their contribution is invaluable in terms of enriching our daily lives – our homes, schools and colleges, hospitals and the public spaces we enjoy”.

David Browne, RIAI President

“The standard of entries was very high this year. The jury have been visiting the shortlisted projects throughout the country and had a challenging task. The shortlist was made up of exceptional projects including residential homes, commercial spaces, schools, heritage locations and public spaces and it’s encouraging that Irish people recognise the value that Irish architects add to all aspects of the built environment, supporting Ireland’s educational, economic and social infrastructure.”

Moving on Up: TODD Architects ranked 64 in AJ100 2019

TODD Architects have been officially ranked 64th in the Architects Journal 100 top UK practices of 2019.

This indicates the practice has moved up four places from last year (68th), and marks the 10th (non-consecutive) year we have been included in the this prestigious top 100 list of UK practices.

The AJ100 survey, examines areas such as fees, salary levels and reflects international activity, practice diversity and Awards won throughout the year. The latest results are also politically significant this year as they reveal a resilient performance from the UK’s largest architectural practices, which as a cohort saw increases in architect numbers, salaries and fee income during 2018- despite the imminent shadow of Brexit up ahead.

We regard this important accolade as a tribute to our hard working and ever growing teams across our three offices in Belfast, Dublin and London and to our Management teams efforts in continually investing in and working to develop and expand our sectorial portfolio and client base. Congratulations to all for your commitment and dedication, we recognize our team is our most valuable asset.

Other significant outcomes from the AJ100 revealed that BIM is now practically universal, with 93 per cent of practices declaring that they made extensive use of it, the highest proportion of any individual technology – compared with 59 per cent five years ago and Revit Architecture is now very widely employed, being extensively used by 86 per cent of practices, up from just over half five years ago. We are proud to be counted as one of these innovative and forward thinking practices who utilize both design technology systems.

AJ100 practices are showing an increasing concern with their staffs’ happiness. Asked to allocate 100 points across six factors that might be considered to contribute to the success of a practice, they once again ranked client satisfaction and repeat business highest but ‘being a good place to work’ is now in second place, swapping places with ‘creativity’.

These survey findings accurately reflect our own TODD Architects practice ethos and values of prioritizing client satisfaction, being a good place to work and team creativity, values which we have always regarded as the true signs of practice progression and success.
