TODD Architects design one of Europe’s top hospitals

The Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Centre was officially opened on June 13 2018 by HRH Prince Charles last week, while simultaneously receiving the prestigious accolade of best Healthcare Design (Over 20,000 sqm) in this year’s European Healthcare Design Awards, as well as being Highly Commended in the Design for Health & Wellness category.

Designed by TODD Architects with Hall Black Douglas, the complex uniquely combines primary and acute care on a shared campus. The scheme was highly praised by the judging panel as an outstanding contemporary healthcare project, demonstrating high levels of sustainability and sensitive integration into its landscape setting, creating an efficient clinical environment, promoting service improvement and providing a supportive environment for staff, patients and their families.

Project director, Andrew Murray commented:

“This is fantastic recognition for the hospital, within an awards programme that seeks to raise the bar in healthcare design globally, where other category winners and commended projects included buildings as far a field as Holland, France, Germany, Denmark, USA and Australia.”

This award follows a host of recently accumulated accolades such as RIBA, RSUA, RICS, RIAI and Civic Trust Awards this year. These Awards are a well deserved mark of recognition for the commitment of the hard-working teams across the board, and also a celebration of the design collaboration and progressive vision of the Western Health and Social Care Trust and the local Omagh community.
