2018 Structural Steel Design Awards

We are delighted to announce that the TODD Architects designed Extension to Belfast Waterfront has been shortlisted for a prestigious Structural Steel Design Award.

The Awards have again seen a strong number of submissions with the 22 shortlisted projects showcasing steel’s flexibility and versatility in a number of different and varying applications. The shortlist also reflects the wide geographical spread of steel’s appeal for a variety of projects ranging from leisure and education buildings to retail buildings, with entries also received for a variety of bridges, commercial developments and infrastructure facilities across the UK.

80 years of Luton

London Luton Airport is celebrating its 80th birthday this year.

Luton Airport opened in 1938 .During the Second World War its was used by the RAF and for a short time was the base for 264 Fighter Squadron. It was the birthplace of affordable air travel from the 1950’s onwards, and in 1990 was renamed London Luton Airport.

Today it is the fifth largest airport in the UK and one of the fastest growing in Europe, employing over 9,400 people and carrying 16 million passengers annually to 140 destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia.

TODD Architects are proud to be a part of London Luton Airports more recent history having worked on its £150m masterplan expansion and transformation, including the redesign, refurbishment and extension of terminals. This has been the largest single investment in the airports history and it’s all focused on making sure passengers have a quick, easy and enjoyable experience with LLA.

In 2018 LLA will officially open the newly extended terminal which will host a selection of great shops and restaurants, and will also open a new boarding pier, containing eight new boarding gates, which will make journeys quicker for passengers.

Aviation Award for Bristol Airport design

Airports Council International EUROPE Best Airport Award winners for 2018 were announced at the ACI World/28th ACI EUROPE General Assembly, Congress & Exhibition, hosted by Brussels Airport in June.

The judging panel for the ACI EUROPE Best Airport Awards was drawn from a group of independent experts including the European Commission, EUROCONTROL, European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and European Travel Commission. ACI EUROPE counts over 500 airports in 45 European countries among its membership and this year’s competition saw a high level of entries in the competition in each category.

The ACI Awards cover 4 traffic categories of airport and aims to recognise achievement in core activities such as customer service, facilities, retail, security, community relations and environmental awareness and operations.

We are delighted to share that TODD Architects designed Bristol Airport was awarded joint-first place in the ‘5-10 MILLION PASSENGERS’ category. This is a huge accomplishment for our team and all involved in being the project to fruition.

Bristol Airport was selected for its continued investments in infrastructure, staff training and increased public transport links. The airport was also selected for its new Security Search Facility that has improved the passenger experience at the security control, allowing Bristol to achieve its highest ASQ score for all security indicators. The judges appreciated the airport’s commitment to facilitating the needs of PRM passengers and its environmental strategy towards carbon neutrality.
