Maternity Unit, Ulster Hospital

Secured following a competitive interview process, this commission replaces the somewhat dated existing hospital maternity unit, with a new state of the art facility, incorporating outpatients departments, delivery suites, special baby unit, wards and home from home suites. A costed option appraisal study examined various redevelopment configurations, with a new-build, stand alone building being the preferred arrangement. The project developed along aesthetic guidelines established within a design guide for the entire hospital complex, also prepared by the practice
