Royal Wharf is located next to the Thames Barrier in London just east of Canary Wharf. The total development masterplan comprises over 3,300 homes along with retail, leisure and education amenities.
In 2016 TODD were appointed to develop the design and to deliver Plot 20, comprising 314no. apartments ranging in size from single bed studios to 5-bed family apartments. The apartments are arranged in four main blocks around a central landscaped podium with commercial and retail units to the ground floor. The apartments are predominantly shared ownership and affordable housing each with its own private balcony and access to the shared podium space.
The building was designed and constructed for prefabrication, with the main façade comprising ‘sandwich panels’ of a structural concrete inner leaf, insulated core and masonry facing. Delivered pre-glazed and finished to site the panels are highly detailed with a sawtooth pattern to the red brick elements and white aluminium detailing to the complementing black brick elements.
The building utilised BIM to a high degree due to the use of prefabrication and high level of coordination required.
