Plot 24, Royal Wharf, London

Royal Wharf is located next to the Thames Barrier in London just east of Canary Wharf. The total development masterplan comprises over 3,300 homes along with retail, leisure and education amenities.

TODD were appointed in 2016 to develop the design and to deliver Plot 24 (Ferdinand Magellan House) comprising 198no. apartments which range in size from single bed studio apartments to 5-bed family penthouse apartments. Arranged in three blocks around a central landscaped courtyard the apartments form part of the private sales and private rental component of the wider development. Each unit has its own private glazed balcony with commercial and retail units provided to the street facing ground floor.

The building was designed and constructed for prefabrication with the main façade comprising ‘sandwich panels’ of a structural concrete inner leaf, insulated core and masonry facing. The buff coloured brick was chosen to reflect the traditional London Stock Brick and is complemented with bronze coloured metalwork features.

The south facing balconies are formed as a colonnade which continues to roof level and provides outdoor amenity space and incorporates winter gardens to a number of apartments.

The building utilised BIM to a high degree due to the use of prefabrication and high level of coordination required.
